(Lunch break chores, too: Cleaning up a bunch of Fediverse groups subscribed to, in some cases years ago and never revisited. A long list of empty shells and disconnected servers and instance names that don't resolve anymore. Lots of difficult gut feelings about all of that, talking enthusiasm and experimentation and waste of resources and lack of sustainability and all that, while at the same time once again reconsidering use of Friendica not just as primary but as the only tool for digital communication. Not because it's perfect. But because, all things considered, it seems the least bad option to choose. And still yearning for this sentiment to change.)

Als Antwort auf flausensuppe • •Ansonsten, Friendica im Vergleich mit Mastodon... das ist auf Nutzer-Ebene vom Vergleich her so wie Facebook vs Twitter. Friendica kann besser mit langen Posts und sehr viel besser mit Threads umgehen als Mastodon. Es gibt daneben eine ganze Menge von Kleinigkeiten, die mir persönlich gut gefallen; das Wichtigste indes für mich: In Friendica kann ich auch mit Kontakten auf Diaspora*, Tumblr und Bluesky interagieren. Ich hab nach all den Jahren online immer noch überall ein paar Menschen, die mich dort halten, aber die Menge paralleler Inboxes überfordert. Dort ist Friendica von Hilfe, bei all den Ungereimtheiten, die es hier und da hat.

Als Antwort auf Kristian • • •When I experimented with Friendica years ago now, it was a bewildering thing with a bunch of features I never even thought to use. And when I did finally try some of those features it got even more confusing. Simplicity brought me back to diaspora ...
But now diaspora (still never reaching "1.0" status) is getting buggy. On multiple servers ("pods") I can't change settings, profile pics, etc. Still, I'm grateful for a FOSS alternative to Fakebook and all that. Yesterday I revisited friendica (rowdyrobin@friendica.world) and it seems better than before. Still, I wish there were easy-to-find tutorials to help newbies naviagate all it's features.
