@danielsreichenbach Hypothetically, could the whole Wikipedia including all media just be forked? I of course know the data is fully available, but I don't know about licenses and such.

Should Wikipedia truly degrade massively this *certainly* is something the EU would provide grants for so it could be rebuild. Don't want to paint the devil on walls… but in the worst possible outcome for Wikipedia it might be an "out" for Wikipedians to continue their truly invaluable work.

@Natanox @danielsreichenbach

A new organisation taking the code and data could indeed be created but this is far from trivial. Lots of institutional knowledge and reputation at the org. Lots of hosting costs currently met with big regular donors. Lots of good-will towards the wikimedia foundation that would be hard to recapture.

Though if the good will is gone already then perhaps that last one wouldn't matter much.

Doesn't really seem realistic to think you're gonna recreate the entire org only with union staff and EU grants, but don't think it would be illegal.

@danielsreichenbach Yeah, it would be a monumental task and truly the last resort. But at least it would be an undertaking the Union almost certainly helps with, both with money and visibility (otherwise it indeed would be almost impossible without some rich person's help).

Staff wouldn't even need to be EU-only, just the upper management / Cooperative's Board.

Trying to find ways to believe in a better future even in the worst circumstances. Getting fucking depressed not doing so.

@Natanox it's better to make an effort for the future than just be scared, a fork is definitely possible since there are archives and the license permits it. The scale is definitely scary but it's not going to be big like this from day one if you fork it.

@danielsreichenbach Lucky you, we just got the money for it… just as the market is basically vanishing in front of everyone's eyes thanks to the very same fascists pushing their slopmachines. :bernd:

Was looking for some hard drives. 30€ / TB is just insanely expensive for HDD, not even mentioning RAM…

I just hope for a MASSIVE crash by now causing the market to be flooded with now useless server hardware and eventually somewhat normalising, and that happening rather sooner than later.
