It feels worse than ever at the moment because with the push of the genAI hype, it seems the hurdles to introduce poor code into production systems which already have been fairly low are basically nonexistent anymore and ... I don't even want to consider this kind of crap pushed to software in, say, aviation, car electronics or medical systems. Gross.😬
@Lars Fiedler Jesus. Yes. We had a similar conversation over here a while ago, boiling down to the insight that cleaning up this mess on the long run might be very well feeding future generations of developers. Still overwhelmed though by how /fast/ it happens...🙈
@adam my 13y old son asked chat gpt to code a simple program. It kept making errors, couldn't fix them even if he pointed them out. He decided it was untrustworthy and just continues learning to properly code himself. I think he's being smarter than a lot of IT people these days.
