Wie so häufig bleiben kaum Düfte oder Klänge aus diesen Welten in den Erinnerungen, und der morgendliche Geist zwischen Kühlschrank und Wasserkocher verbringt einige leere, nicht durch Wissen irgendwelcher Art belastete Minuten, sich Erklärungen zusammenzudenken, warum das so sein könnte. Und dann ein vorsichtiger Gruß an die Vordach-Tauben, die Bäume der Innenhöfe, den Himmel und das stumme Quartier. Halb verschlafen, kratzig mit sich selbst und fern guten Schwunges. 🕕 6am morning coffee morning frogs the sound of suitcase wheels in the streets and the early day still reshaping its agenda. Also, notification inbound, legacy remote systems still active but slowly drifting into erratic behaviour and it's interesting to observe whether they will actually be discontinued at some point or keep emitting unsettling messages until hardware eventually breaks. New tickets, mails left unanswered, picking one and knowing halfway through that this will take several hours to be done right. The usual flow, the usual flow.

Captured with a Fuji GX680 camera, 80mm lens, T-Max 100 film. Some tilt was applied to control focus. It was very dark in there, and focusing required the use of a flashlight.
The Pennsylvania Avenue Subway was built to provide a sub-grade freight connection between the Reading Railroad's main line and its "City Branch". It served the Baldwin Locomotive Works' Callowhill plant and, later, the Philadelphia Inquirer's printing plant, among other Center City industries. Abandoned in the 1980's.
The GX680 was a fun but very unusual camera that couldn't quite decide what it wanted to be. It was a truly gigantic beast of a medium format SLR camera providing (limited) view camera movements. It used 120-format roll film with a 6x8cm frame (so a 3:4 aspect ratio), with a built-in autowinder. It's sort of what you'd get if you somehow merged a Nikon F4, a Hasselblad, and a Crown Graphic. Definitely not a point & shoot camera.
Fun fact: the Reading was a major northeastern US railroad (made famous internationally by its place on the Monopoly gameboard), which ceded its rail business in 1976 to the newly formed Conrail consortium. But the company kept most of its non-railroad real estate holdings, and today mostly operates cinemas (including NYC's Angelika) in several countries.
(The Reading Company was named for the Pennsylvania city, and so is pronounced with the past tense of what you do with words on a page).
@GustavinoBevilacqua It's not very long, and doesn't really connect areas that aren't reasonably traveled on the surface. Unfortunately the connecting rail line rights of way after the tunnel have been partly redeveloped.
re Monopoly gameboard, the fame extended only to places that used the US locations. I learned Monopoly in the UK, and the places are all in London (from Old Kent Road to Mayfair), including the railroads, with the prices in pounds.
Fun fact: I once played Monopoly in New Zealand: the locations on the gameboard were the London ones, but the currency was in dollars!
not sure about that. Our family set was actually from my father's youth (and by the look of it, close to WWII in vintage), and it had the London street names and stations.
the pieces were all wood and cardboard (no metal), which makes me think that at the time it was made, metal was more valuable for munitions than for game pieces.
I like this photo, I think it sends a nice message, something akin ~ "Take a detour, a walk amidst nature, away from your default, colorless path." ~ very profound.
