I've used Digital Ocean before. I hope it's not them. They have turnkey mastodon servers.

Another option I've seen people like is OVHcloud.

My server (serving PeerTube, Faircamp and jitsi-meet, a chat server) is currently in my living room on a 2GB line. I've been meaning to move it to a data center, and have looked at OVHcloud's pricing (mostly for dedicated hardware). Very reasonable.

I have no recent experience with either.

No idea what they might charge but they are a large European based hosting provider (Germany and Finland).

fedihost.co/ from @paige has been my go-to - I've not had any technical issues but my instance is tiny

what kind of hosting and technical assistance do you need?

(I mean, do you need a generic web server provider where you admin Mastodon yourself, or do you need a Mastodon-specific service provider similar to masto.host that is responsible for installing updates and other admin things on your behalf?)

We plan to move our very small instance this month or next (currently VPN self-managed w/ Digital Ocean) to a managed hosting provider in the EU.

The only two providers we've found that meet our criteria so far are masto(.)host and toot(.)io.

We have no experience with either; this is based solely on recommendations we've gotten here and online searches.

We have "tested the waters" with a different EU-based host. Based on our experience we think we need more robust tech support than they provide.

our instance has slightly smaller database and slightly higher media storage. Overall, I think we can offer you managed hosting using our tested configuration.

132 GB SQL is really a lot. Our basic offer is about 40€ per month, but I expected database to be much smaller, this implies really lot of RAM required to run the VPS. I must ask my fellow admin about pricing of extra resources.

Can I ask how big is size of SQL backup? (compressed, as .tar.gz)

I have tested tooctl with undocumented parameters to clean old statuses without local interactions (it is really a must, to prevent database from growing). It can be set up to clean eg. statuses older than 365 days, if there were no interactions by local users (nobody doomscrolls more than cca 1 week in the past anyway...)

On the other hand, we have Elasticsearch tested and running (on separate VPS, for stability). And yes, we offer managed VPS, we would handle Mastodon upgrades.

We are in EU and we run all our stack including HW (we are local ISP, primarily)
